Body Wash - DIY

Dove Body Wash
This is the most amazing DIY body wash ever!!

2 cups water per bar
Grate bar with a cheese grater into what looks like fine grated cheese, put in a pan, add water and heat on medium heat till soap is dissolved, remove from heat and let cool. It will get thicker as it cools. Once cool put into bottles or any container.

**Must use dove moisturizing cream bars or olay moisture bars for this recipe. These are not considered bar soap, but a moisture bar. Any other type of bar soap you end up with either mucus or a hard gelled up glob!!!

I added a little more water to mine to make it a little thinner, once it cools if it is to thick for what you like add a little cool water at a time and stir to get the thickness you prefer.

  1. How many bars do you find it takes to fill a bottle?

  2. what size bar do you use. is it the 4oz? because I have not yet been able to get this to work with any recipe so far. but I realized that I had a smaller bar. So I am going to try with a 4oz bar and see if it works.

  3. Can't you just buy the body wash already made at the market?

  4. I just made this recipe and LOVE it! I followed directions and did not thin. Came out consistency of the Olay Body Wash I buy. I used 4-4oz Dove "rose" moisturizing bars and 8 cups water. Melted soap on stove top between med/low using a whisk then switched to a spatchula at the end... Perfect. Let sit in 2 separate containers uncovered over night. Tip: I will use a knife or cheese grater (only) in the future. Used my Ninja...although it did a great job, it was horrible to clean due to moisturizer in soap.

  6. This really needs a preservative. Anytime you are adding water a preservative is needed to prevent bacteria from growing.

  7. Can't pronounce the chemical names in the ingredient list,
therefore do not want it on my skin. Use hand made goat milk soap.

  9. Use distilled water instead of reg tap water. If you don't use it up in a wk, bacteria starts growing at room temperature.

    1. What happens when the bacteria grows? I've been making this for the past two years with tap water. I haven't noticed anything (outwardly anyway). I love this because I'm on a tight budget and this makes a bat of soap last four times longer!

  10. If you don’t add a preservative, you will get mold and bacteria. You don’t always see it, but it is there. I make a lot of soap and lotions...this is not a good way to make body wash.
